CERTIFIED EQUINE KINESIOLOGY PRACTITIONER

I am certified in Equine Kinesiology Taping. You may know it as “Sports Tape”, and have seen athletes wearing this colored tape during competitions or training. In the Olympics you may have noted both Horse and rider wearing Kinesiology tape. So, what it is, and what does it do?
Kinesiology Tape was developed in the 1970‘s by a Japanese Chiropractor named Kenzo Kase. The difference in this tape from conventional tape is that it stretches along the longitudinal axis, which allows it to provide support during exercise without restricting motion.
When Kinesiology Tape is applied correctly, it decompresses the skin and interacts with neurosensory receptors which result in:

  • Decrease in pain
  • Increase in blood and lymph flow
  • Decrease in Inflammation
  • Support of Muscles and the Joints

Horses with muscle, joint, inflammation and pain issues have had relief with Kinesiology Taping. When the tape is applied to the horse’s hair, it in turn lifts the skin with the same decompression as in people. When the horse moves with the tape intact, it stimulates nerves called Mechanoreceptors that inhibit pain. So the tape is a Natural Pain Reliever!
